French Polynesia offers world class sailing and private boat chartering and tour opportunities and the island of Huahine is a favorite destination
for many reasons.
Centrally located among the Society Islands, Huahine is close to Polynesia's "sailing center" of Raiatea and Tahaa (allowing for many chartering options) and it's only a half days sail from the tourist wonderland of Bora bora.
But the real reason to sail here is the
island itself: Huahine's intense beauty is rivaled by none and its unspoiled Polynesian flavor makes it a perfect island for exploration.
Huahine has several choices for exploring her waters including sailing and yacht charters,
private boat excursions and various packages for many different boating or sailing experiences you can dream of.
Cruise around its lagoon for a relaxing afternoon on a daily charter or take one of the most unforgettable
trips of your life as you venture out of the lagoon into the open
ocean and explore the surrounding pristine waters of Tahiti Polynesia.
This page is your starting guide for exploring the pristine waters
of Huahine and the Leeward Islands of the Society archipelago of Tahiti Polynesia.
Sailing & Boat Charters
Most companies offering Huahine as a sailing or boat charter destination operate and board out of Fare- Huahine, Papeete- Tahiti or Uturoa- Raiatea.
Typical tours involve cruising around the island's beautiful lagoon for a relaxing afternoon while snorkeling, scuba diving, picture taking, or swimming and picnicking on one of the nearby motus.
Many sailing tours are 1 to 4 day excursions with other Society Islands as secondary destinations after Huahine. No matter how long your sailing or boating trip may be, it's certain to be a memorable one!
Below is a list of a few sailing and boat charter
companies for you to experience Huahine and her surrounding waters with:

Marinas
The island of Huahine DOES NOT HAVE A MARINA of its own. The most likely reason for this is its
lack of notoriety as a "tourist destination" and, therefore, the
relatively small numbers of traveling marine vessels arriving there. That being said,
the island DOES have quite a few good places to anchor and moor your boat.
This easily enabels vessels to stay more than a few days if they want, and
many do.
Because of its central location among the Society Islands, it's within a days sail from both Tahiti and/ or the Raiatea/ Tahaa sailing center and all the boat and yachting services associated on those islands. If your boat needs repairs, parts, services, or to be drydocked, it's sailors choice between the best boatyards in French Polynesia: either Tahiti or Raiatea. (with Raiatea being a bit closer.)
Here, TST offers what information we have at the moment relating to marine and pertinent yachting and boating information for Huahine. Note that the future of this page will offer more accurate details on these subjects, but for now known information is as follows:
Harbours/ Anchoring, & Mooreage
There is no officially designated public harbour on Huahine, but there are several good places to anchor and moor your boat. One of the most popular spots to moor is in the protected lagoon directly in front of the village of Fare.
Many vessels from all over the world end up anchoring
here for overnighters or short stays because of the close proximity to the services in Fare. You will also see yachts at various other random protected places within the lagoon waters.
TST desires to update this page with additional moorage and anchorage spots along with information on their conditions. WE WELCOME YOUR KNOWLEDGEABLE INPUT!
Marine & Yachting Services
Huahine has a limited selection
of professional yachting or boating businesses and services for the same reasons it has no marina.see above).
Water fillups and a few basic parts can
be found in Fare, but not much else.
THE BEST SELECTION OF MARINE SERVICES CAN BE FOUND IN PAPEETE, TAHITI OR UTUROA, RAIATEA.
